CARE OF YOUR DOODLES COAT!!!!
The Curly Doodle Coat.
++++++ grooming
Puppy Coat
Teenage Coat
Adult Coat
This coat type is the most desired in the doodle world, however it is the MOST demanding of the doodle coats.
As a puppy this coat is beautiful and easily managed if brushed daily with a slicker brush.
At around 7-10 months (teenage months) their adult coat will come through, if you’re not careful and groom thoroughly EVERY DAY this coat will matt.
It will matt to the point that NO Groomer will attempt to groom them, your beautiful doodle will have to have a No1 all over!!!
If this happens, don’t put it off and get them shaved!! Matting is very painful for our doodle and that coat will need to come off!!!
From a young puppy it is important to make regular visits to the groomers, so your doodle can get used to being in a grooming environment. To fully groom a doodle with this type of coat it can take up to 4hrs so it is imperative that your doodle is used to it, for both your dog and the groomer!
As an adult (If you intend to keep their coat long) your doodle will need to visit the groomers every 4-6 weeks, you will also need to groom daily at home with both a slicker brush and a metal tooth comb. There are many tips and videos on YouTube on how to groom your doodle.
PLEASE WATCH THEM!!!
Other notes – Never towel dry your curly/fleecy doodle- a wet coat will matt, so you will need to use a good conditioner when bathing your doodle and pat dry, don’t let them air dry, they will matt, invest in a blast dryer and dry them thoroughly using your slicker brush, metal comb and dryer.
You should start by brushing your Goldendoodle with the
Slicker Brush

This is the one we use, and I recommend for your doodles ADULT coat.
Starting at the bottom, brush a line of hair away and pull a small portion down away. You want to see the skin with each line of hair and you will continue this up. You want to do the whole doodle in this manner. This is to make sure there are no mats or tangles. You want all mats and tangles removed. Do not forget the tail and armpits.
If any mats will not brush out use the grooming scissors or your dog clippers to remove the mats. After de-matting, use a metal pin brush to comb your dog’s coat thoroughly until the brush moves easily through his luscious locks. If the brush gets stuck in any section, go back and work out the tangle gradually starting at the end of the strands and moving closer toward the skin.
Brush this way daily from a young puppy.
This way your doodle will learn to enjoy a groom and you can then keep their coat matt free and comfortable.
Not to mention Beautiful.
EARS
The curlier your doodle is the more hair they have in their ears. If they go to a groomers every 4 weeks ensure your groomer plucks and cleans their ears every time,
Keep an eye out for dirty or smelly ears and if they don’t go to the groomers regularly weekly ear cleaning is essential to keep them clean and healthy.
SMOOTH COAT DOODLE
+ Grooming
Puppy coat
Teenage coat
Adult coat
This beautiful doodle coat is far more retriever than poodle and therefore will shed some hair, but on the plus side they require very little grooming compared to their curlier or fleecier counterpart.
This coat will need a full groom maybe once a year and weekly grooming to keep an eye out for small matts behind the ears, genital area, arm pits, leg feathers and tail.
Grooming your smooth coat doodle will be more for pleasure rather a daily MUST do routine.
Regular ear cleaning and nail clipping will keep your doodles ears and feet healthy and comfortable
WAVY/SHAGGY DOODLE COAT
+++ GROOMING
Baby coat
Teenage coat
Adult coat
The beautiful wavy/Shaggy coat is not completely ‘non-shedding’ and so a little easier to maintain. Professional grooming should be sought once or twice a year.
Weekly grooming with a slicker brush and metal comb, cut out any knots (using safety or curved scissors) in common areas, such as behind the ears, in between the toes, genital area, leg feathers and tail.
This coat requires more attention than the smooth doodle coat but is easy to manage with regular grooming. When bathing, do not rub with a towel only pat dry. This coat can be brushed wet, with both a slicker brush and comb. Make sure you brush down to the skin so as not to surface brush the top coat. After a thorough brush through you can either air dry or blow dry this coat. This will ensure a beautiful healthy, matt free, coat for your doodle.
